Huge Balls
Posted by WIWAM in Sports/Entertainment/Music on August 5th, 2010
In most sports there is a small ball or item and a large playing surface. Whether it be baseball, football, dodgeball, tennis you will see a small item being thrown or kicked by players on a relatively large field of play. I think there should be more games or sports with a very large item, or a very small playing area. Dodgeball with exercise balls, or soccer on a basketball court. Or what about really small items on really large playing surfaces? Basketball on a court the size of a golf course, or tennis on a court the size of a soccer field. Mix it up a bit, our sports are becoming too easy for the players.

Real Men Shoot Wood
Posted by WIWAM in Animals/Nature, Sports/Entertainment/Music on August 4th, 2010
Unfortunately, on Saturday mornings before the ESPN English Premier League soccer match of the week I am forced to watch a 4 minute infomercial about outdoor sports equipment. I’m often reminded of how ridiculous modern hunting equipment is, to the point where I can’t understand how it’s even fun for the hunters anymore. The most prime example of this is the mdern hunting bow, shown below:
Look at that fucking thing! There are wheels on it! The animals don’t stand a chance. If you were hunting animals for food or to make clothing, for survival in general I could understand wanting to have the best technology to improve your chances of living. But hunting with that type of technology for sport… I fail to see how anyone could enjoy it, with accurate shots past 150 yards. 150 yards! I say to these real men who are hunting for sport, go grab a knife and engage the animal in a real fight. Good luck.

Netflix Dangers
Posted by WIWAM in Sports/Entertainment/Music on August 3rd, 2010
I am a new and recent subscriber to Netflix. I’m not sure what I did before Netflix but it must have been terrible, because I can no longer live without it. Streaming movies through my PS3 to my television while I wait for physical copies of other movies? Yes please. The Netflix website is great and allows you to rate movies you’ve seen, which in turn supposedly makes their suggestions much more improved. The site reminds me of IMDB in the sense that you can get caught up jumping from movie to movie, actor to actor. This presents an interesting problem, which is the reason behind this post. Because of Netflix’s ability to make more accurate suggestions based upon your likes and dislikes, I feel the need to watch every single movie they have, including movies I will almost definitely not enjoy just to make their suggestions more accurate and have that particular movie get out of my view. I could mark a movie I don’t want to see (Beverly Hills Chihuahua, for instance) as, “Not Interested” but there’s always the chance that that might cause Netflix to not show me another suggestion because it thinks I wouldn’t like it. And I could miss out on the best movie of all time because of that! Not cool! So I suppose I answered my own question. I must watch every movie ever made so Netflix can give me the best suggestions possible on… the zero movies I’ve never seen.
Let It Ride
Posted by WIWAM in Personal, Sports/Entertainment/Music on July 29th, 2010
Are there any movies that you’ve seen that you’ve tried to get your friends to watch and enjoy, only to find that you’re the only person that enjoys it? That’s Let It Ride for me. Let It Ride is a comedy made in 1989 starring Richard Dreyfuss and some zany characters about a guy who has a very good day at the racetrack. Unfortunately, I’m the only person I know that finds this movie so funny and every time I try to get someone to like it as much as me, afterwards they curse me for making them watch it. Not only that, but when I watch it with other people and they don’t enjoy it they bring me down and I feel self-conscious laughing at everything while they’re as silent as a dead bird. Now I only get enjoyment when watching it alone. So please, for the love of Jesus and his merry men, watch this movie and tell me if you think it’s stupid one-liners are hilarious or retarded.

Blondie Love
Posted by WIWAM in Sports/Entertainment/Music on July 24th, 2010
If you don’t like the band Blondie, I have it on good authority that you are a Nazi. “Call Me”, “Heart of Glass”, how can you not like Blondie? Blondie is awesome. Not liking Blondie is not awesome. Nazis are not awesome, therefore if you do not like Blondie you are not awesome and are a Nazi.
I’m glad we can agree on that.
Dead Records
Posted by WIWAM in Sports/Entertainment/Music on July 10th, 2010
Dead musicians need to stop releasing albums. This is getting ridiculous now. Tupac has eight posthumous albums. Eight! Dead people should not get credit for releasing music when 99% of the work going into the album is done by other people. The end.

I’m Not Really Glad
Posted by WIWAM in Commonalities, Sports/Entertainment/Music on June 30th, 2010
I’m not really glad they made The Children’s Aid Society. I don’t know how long ago it was that I heard the jingle on T.V. for The Children’s Aid Society but it was long enough that I’m concerned about my well-being that I still remember it vividly. I can’t remember where I put my glasses on a daily basis but for the rest of my life I will be able to sing the jingle to this commercial. I don’t know if The Children’s Aid Society still plays those comemrcials but I really hope that they don’t. Another generation of people do not need to be subjected to such a memorable, life-altering jingle. I feel like it’s eating away at my brain. I’m really glad they made… The Children’s Aid… Society. It plays over and over and over again in my head. I think every tenth playback it has a subliminal message that tells me to murder my family. I don’t trust it.

100 MPH
Posted by WIWAM in Humans/Society/Family, Sports/Entertainment/Music on June 27th, 2010
Does anyone else find it strange that humans have a baseball throwing speed of 100mph?
For starters, yes there are people that throw faster than 100mph, and the majority of humans cannot throw a baseball that fast. But in general, 100mph is the maximum speed a top pitcher throws a baseball. It seems very strange that such an even number would be the maximum throwing speed. It’s based upon a measurement (mph) that we as humans have made up as well. I admit there are a lot of circumstances involved here, including the modern construction of a baseball. Putting all of that aside, I think it’s still noteworthy. Physics, human conditioning and measurements have come together to provide a throwing speed in base 10 that is nice and even. Personally, I think Jesus is involved somehow. He can also throw a curveball, so I’ve heard.

Creepy Compliments
Posted by WIWAM in Fashion, Sports/Entertainment/Music on June 25th, 2010
I own a lot of t-shirts, and most of those shirts are music related. I have a lot of Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam & Beatles shirts and often when I wear them out I get complimented on them… by guys. I’ll be minding my own business and a guy will give me the ‘ole, “Nice shirt.” as we pass each other. Mind you, these are not usually guys walking alone, these are guys with what appears to be a girlfriend. I do like the compliment on my musical taste but I am a little weirded out by the randomness of the comment, and the fact that is almost never comes from a girl. It’s always a guy.
There was only one time I complimented a guy on a t-shirt: I was at the Getty Center in Los Angeles and I saw a guy wearing a Michigan football shirt. I thought it quite odd that I would run into another Michigan football fan at the Getty Center so I said, “Go Blue.” I believe he mentioned the fact that we sucked at that moment, which we did.
The point is that I don’t know how to feel about these comments. I suppose they’re just friendly and positive so I’m going to go ahead and say thank you, and keepem’ coming.
Eat My Logo
Posted by WIWAM in Health/Nutrition/Food, Sports/Entertainment/Music on June 14th, 2010
If someone bakes a cake which has the logo of a rival sports team on top, are you supporting their team by eating the cake, or is it alright to eat because it represents the destruction and demolition of their team? It’s my thought that eating the cake would not be in support of the rival team, especially if you ate it in an aggressive manner. Plus it’s cake, and cake can’t be a negative thing.

Vuvuzela Love
Posted by WIWAM in Sports/Entertainment/Music on June 13th, 2010
I love vuvuzelas. A vuvuzela is a stadium horn, usually made of plastic. It’s an extremely loud horn which has been known to reach very high decibel levels. Currently during the 2010 World Cup the vuvezelas are constantly being blown, sounding like a swarm of locusts filling the stadium. There is literally no stoppage of sound coming from them throughout the entire match. It makes me wonder how loud it is on the field and whether the players can even hear each other shouting instructions. It adds another level of concentration to the match and is needed by the players in addition to their normal skill, and it makes the game that much more difficult. I wish they’d use vuvuzelas during parts of everyday life to weed out the weak people: at work, on the train, during sleep. If you can handle it, you’re fit enough to procreate as a human.
29 Big Ten Teams
Posted by WIWAM in Sports/Entertainment/Music on June 12th, 2010
The Big Ten Conference used to have 10 schools in its ranks for college athletics. Since 1990, it has had 11 schools. As of 2011, it will have 12 schools. I understand that the name of the conference is actually a brand at this point, but it is extremely silly to have a name that can constantly either change or be incorrect. I suppose it’s just very stupid to have a name that includes a number. As a rule, this should be avoided. It’s going to get very confusing soon. The Pac-10 conference will soon have 11, and the Big 12 will have 11 next year and 10 in 2012, assuming no other changes. My guess is that in 2014 there will be 29 teams in the Big Ten conference. 31 teams during leap years.

Film Remakes
Posted by WIWAM in Money/Capitalism/Greed, Sports/Entertainment/Music on May 28th, 2010
I am getting very tired of seeing commercials and previews for movies coming out that are remakes of movies from fifteen to twenty years ago. As you can imagine, most of the movies that are being remade are popular movies. Movies that were good and are good! I think it’s safe to assume that these projects were approved solely for the purpose of profit. Not to be naive to what drives the movie industry, but this is a different level of disgusting. This is a waste of cinema space and screens that could be showing really good independent or foreign films, but are now resigned to carry these horrible remakes of classic movies with bigger budgets, bigger stars, smaller plots and a smaller brain cell requirement. It’s time we boycott these films completely and hit the movie industry hard where it hurts the most. In the dick.
No Ones Like Lacrosse
Posted by WIWAM in Sports/Entertainment/Music on May 24th, 2010
The title says it all. No one likes lacrosse except for people who play lacrosse, and parents of people who play lacrosse. People in the northeast pretend to like lacrosse, especially those who go to a college who has a good lacrosse team, but no one really likes the sport that much. There are too many goals and too many stupid rules. I don’t know why they continue to broadcast the NCAA tournament on television. Do people actually watch this if not forced by kidnappers? I’d love to be enlightened concerning the viewers of this sport.

Is It Over?
Posted by WIWAM in Sports/Entertainment/Music on May 23rd, 2010
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed this, but the NHL & NBA playoffs last about 6-7 months as far as I can tell. I’m very much into playoff hockey so this doesn’t bother me too much, but it does seem strange that the playoffs go on for so long. There are a ton of breaks, a ton of teams and in hockey the majority of the rounds go pretty close to the limit of games. The NBA I don’t follow at all so the news I do see on the subject comes glances at random espn.com headlines, but it seems just as long as hockey. It seems even longer since I couldn’t care less about it. I know these are physically demanding sports, but can we shorten these playoffs at all? There’s hardly a break between the playoffs and the next season at this point.
